Kia Niro ADAS Calibration

The Kia Niro runs in three powertrains – hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and full electric – but all three share the same DriveWise ADAS sensor layout. Camera behind the windscreen, radar behind the front bumper, rear sensors in the quarter panels. Whichever Niro you drive, the ADAS calibration process is the same. From £199 at our 70+ UK workshops.

DriveWise Systems on the Kia Niro

The second-generation Niro (SG2, 2022+) carries the full DriveWise package regardless of powertrain. The first-generation (DE, 2016–2022) offered a smaller feature set that grew with each model year update.

Second generation (2022+) – all powertrains:

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) 2.0 – camera and radar fusion for detecting vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Includes junction-turning assistance.
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go – front radar behind the bumper. Handles full motorway and traffic driving.
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA) – active lane centring using the windscreen camera. Keeps the Niro centred, not just within the lines.
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) – rear radar in both quarter panels with active braking intervention.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) – detects crossing traffic when reversing. Uses the rear radar sensors.

First generation (2016–2022):

  • Smart Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist on higher trims. FCA available from 2019 facelift onwards. No rear blind-spot radar on base models.

The Niro EV has the same ADAS sensor hardware as the hybrid and PHEV variants – the electric powertrain doesn't change the calibration requirements. For Kia's dedicated electric platform, see the EV6 – different architecture, same calibration need.

Common Calibration Triggers for the Niro

After windscreen replacement

The Niro's forward camera controls Lane Following Assist and contributes to Forward Collision-Avoidance. After windscreen replacement, this camera needs specialist recalibration – standard for any vehicle with a windscreen-mounted camera system. The same applies to the Sportage and Ceed.

After front bumper repair

The Smart Cruise Control radar behind the front bumper is vulnerable to alignment shifts during bodywork. Bumper replacement, front-end collision repair, or even a parking sensor installation that involves bumper removal can trigger the need for radar recalibration.

Hybrid regenerative braking interaction

Niro owners sometimes notice that Forward Collision-Avoidance interventions feel different after a sensor misalignment – the system's emergency braking interacts with the regenerative braking system. Proper calibration ensures FCA and the powertrain work together correctly.

If your Niro's Lane Following Assist has started drifting or disengaging since a repair, the windscreen camera alignment is the likely cause – a straightforward recalibration at any of our UK workshops.

Kia Niro ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Kia Niro

No. The Niro EV, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid all use the same DriveWise sensor hardware and the same calibration procedures. The electric powertrain doesn't change how the camera or radar sensors are calibrated. See all Kia models we calibrate
