Mini Cooper SE ADAS Calibration

The Cooper SE is MINI's electric variant of the iconic Hatch – available as the F56e (2020–2023) on the UKL1 platform and the J01 (2024+) on BMW's FAAR platform. The two generations carry very different sensor suites: the older F56e has basic Driving Assistant with camera and radar, while the new J01 brings the full FAAR-platform sensor array with 12 ultrasonic sensors. After any repair, the correct calibration depends on which generation you drive.

ADAS Systems on Your MINI Cooper SE

F56e Cooper SE (2020–2023, UKL1):

  • Driving Assistant – Front Collision Warning, AEB, Lane Departure Warning
  • Active Cruise Control – radar-based adaptive cruise (optional)
  • Speed Limit Info – camera-based sign recognition
  • Simple sensor architecture: windscreen camera + front radar

J01 Cooper SE (2024+, FAAR):

  • Driving Assistant – Front Collision Warning, AEB, Lane Departure Warning
  • Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go – radar-based adaptive cruise
  • Parking Assistant Plus – four surround-view cameras, remote parking (optional)
  • 12 ultrasonic sensors – full close-range mapping
  • Speed Limit Info – camera-based sign recognition

The FAAR-generation Cooper SE has significantly more sensor points than the UKL1 version – a bumper repair on the new J01 can affect more systems than the same repair on the older F56e.

When Your MINI Cooper SE Needs ADAS Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

Both generations have a forward camera bonded to the windscreen. AEB, Lane Departure Warning, and Speed Limit Info depend on it. Every glass replacement requires recalibration – our windscreen calibration at £199 covers both F56e and J01 using the correct BMW/MINI ISTA procedures for each.

After Front Bumper Repair

The front radar behind the grille powers Active Cruise Control. On the newer J01, ultrasonic sensors in the bumper add further calibration points. If ACC or parking features stopped working after bodywork, radar recalibration is needed.

F56e vs J01 – Different Complexity

A bumper repair on the older F56e typically requires only radar recalibration. The same repair on the J01 may require radar, ultrasonic, and potentially surround-view camera calibration – more sensor points, more calibration work. See all MINI models

Mini Cooper SE ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Mini Cooper SE

No. The F56e uses the UKL1 platform with simpler ADAS — camera and radar only. The J01 uses BMW's FAAR platform with 12 ultrasonic sensors, optional surround-view cameras, and a more advanced sensor suite. Calibration procedures differ between the two generations.
