Is the old Cooper SE (F56e) the same as the new one (J01) for ADAS?

No. The F56e uses the UKL1 platform with simpler ADAS — camera and radar only. The J01 uses BMW's FAAR platform with 12 ultrasonic sensors, optional surround-view cameras, and a more advanced sensor suite. Calibration procedures differ between the two generations.

Does the Cooper SE use BMW ADAS hardware?

Yes. Both generations use BMW Group sensor hardware. The F56e shares sensors with the BMW X1 (F48). The J01 shares the FAAR platform with the BMW 1 Series. We use ISTA diagnostic tools for both.

Is EV-specific knowledge needed for Cooper SE ADAS calibration?

The ADAS calibration procedure is the same regardless of powertrain — the sensors, targets, and diagnostic protocols are identical to the petrol MINI Hatch. High-voltage safety protocols apply when working near the vehicle, but the ADAS calibration itself is platform-standard.

The Cooper SE is MINI's electric variant of the iconic Hatch – available as the F56e (2020–2023) on the UKL1 platform and the J01 (2024+) on BMW's FAAR platform. The two generations carry very different sensor suites: the older F56e has basic Driving Assistant with camera and radar, while the new J01 brings the full FAAR-platform sensor array with 12 ultrasonic sensors. After any repair, the correct calibration depends on which generation you drive.

After Front Bumper Repair

The front radar behind the grille powers Active Cruise Control. On the newer J01, ultrasonic sensors in the bumper add further calibration points. If ACC or parking features stopped working after bodywork, radar recalibration is needed.

F56e vs J01 – Different Complexity
