Volvo S60 ADAS Calibration

If your Volvo S60's Pilot Assist or City Safety has gone offline after a windscreen replacement or front-end repair, you are dealing with a sensor alignment issue – not a software glitch. The S60 is built on Volvo's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture), the same platform as the XC60 and XC90, carrying the full IntelliSafe suite with radar, camera, and rear sensors that all require precision calibration when disturbed.

ADAS Systems on the Volvo S60

The current-generation S60 (2019+) sits on Volvo's SPA platform – shared with the V60 estate and XC60 SUV. On the S60, this means a comprehensive IntelliSafe configuration:

  • City Safety – automatic emergency braking with the front radar behind the lower grille. The S60's saloon nose profile positions the radar slightly differently from the SUV models – the lower ride height changes the sensor angle relative to the road.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – shares the front radar with City Safety. Both systems fail simultaneously if the radar is displaced.
  • Pilot Assist – semi-autonomous driving combining front radar and windscreen camera. Available from R-Design trim upward on the S60.
  • Lane Keeping Aid (LKA) – camera-mounted behind the rearview mirror on the windscreen. Affected by any windscreen replacement.
  • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with Steer Assist – rear radar sensors in the bumper corners monitoring adjacent lanes.
  • Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) with Auto Brake – rear sensors detecting approaching vehicles when reversing.
  • Run-off Road Mitigation – camera-dependent system that steers the car back if it detects an unintended road departure. A Volvo-specific feature available on the S60.
  • Oncoming Lane Mitigation – uses the camera and radar together to detect oncoming vehicles and steer you back into your lane.

Volvo S60 – Common Calibration Triggers

After windscreen replacement: The S60's windscreen camera is responsible for Pilot Assist, Lane Keeping Aid, Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Traffic Sign Recognition. A windscreen swap disables all five systems at once. Windscreen fitters replace the glass but typically cannot recalibrate – that requires our windscreen calibration service.

After front bumper repair or collision: The S60's lower ride height compared to XC-series SUVs means the front radar behind the grille sits closer to typical impact zones in car park bumps. City Safety and ACC will show dashboard warnings until the radar is professionally recalibrated.

After rear-end repairs: BLIS and Cross Traffic Alert depend on sensors in the rear bumper corners. The S60's saloon boot line positions these sensors differently from SUV and estate variants – rear bumper replacement requires model-specific calibration parameters.

The S60 shares its SPA platform with the V60 estate – same sensor types, but different body geometry means calibration targets differ between the two. We also calibrate the XC90 and every other Volvo in the range. See all Volvo models

Volvo S60 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Volvo S60

The S60 uses Volvo's SPA platform, shared with the V60, XC60, and XC90. The IntelliSafe sensor types are the same, but each model has different body dimensions — meaning the calibration parameters for the S60's saloon body shape are specific to this model. Our IMI-certified technicians use the correct settings for each variant.
